Got a question? We’ve got you covered. Whether you’re stuck on a checkpoint, troubleshooting an app issue, or just want to understand how something works - start here
How does District track my runs?
District uses your phone’s GPS and motion sensors to measure distance, speed, and checkpoints reached. Make sure Location and Motion permissions are enabled for the app to work properly.
Do I have to run?
Nope! Walking, hiking, and jogging all count — as long as you’re moving, you’re earning XP.
Is District free to play?
Yes. District is free to download and play, with optional in-app purchases and the District Plus upgrade for premium features.
Can I play indoors?
District is designed for outdoor exploration, but you can still earn XP from movement recorded by your phone’s gps when indoors.
Does District work without data?
You’ll need a data connection to load the map and sync your activity, but once your run starts, basic tracking will continue offline and sync automatically when you reconnect.
Can I use District in different cities?
Yes - your profile travels with you! Just open the app wherever you are, and new Districts will appear on the map automatically.
Am I allowed to use a car?
Nope — District is designed to be played on foot.
Using a car (or bike, scooter, bus, train, jetpack… you get the idea) breaks the spirit of the game and will trigger our speed-detection system. If your activity shows vehicle-level speeds, it will be automatically disqualified and won’t count towards your score or progress. Keep it human-powered for fair play and accurate scoring.
